Graduating Teachers develop positive relationships with learners and members of learning communities

a) Recognise how differing values and beliefs may impact on learners and their learning

A writing on how my experiences as an English Language teacher, have encouraged me to be mindful of students' religious beliefs and political viewpoints.

Please find in 6e a relfection on different cultures in schools and ways I have seen these be identified and celebrated.

b) Have the knowledge and dispositions to work effectively with colleagues, parents/caregivers, families/whanau and communities

I also find evidence in 7c relevant in demonstrating my ability to work effectively with colleagues and other caregivers.

My knowledge of understanding of how to communicate with parents and caregivers can be seen in the reflection in 5c.

d) Promote a learning culture which engages diverse learners effectively

A reflection from an experience in an inclusion support centre while on practicum that gave me an insight on how to cater for learners who require extra support.

This was an introductory lesson in to the school sculpture project. First I asked the students to draw symbols to represent themselves, on a piece of square card. While this activity was underway I was able to walk round, ask the learners about the symbols (getting to know them), and form a general idea of their drawing abilities. The idea was at the end of the lesson the learners would make slots in each corner of their square card and the pieces would come together as a class sculpture. Not only was this an opportunity to demonstrate slotting systems but also produced an effective outcome.

Please also see 5a for my Teaching as Inquiry essay, that looks at catering for learners with different ambitions and motivations.

e) Demonstrate respect for te reo Maori me nga tikanga-a-iwi in their practice

An extract from Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners
