i.  take all reasonable steps to provide and maintain a teaching and learning environment that is    physically, socially, culturally and emotionally safe.

Providing a spiritually safe environment for my students has included:

-Finding out about and respecting cultural customs

-Allowing students to express their culture and beliefs and providing time to carry out practices

-Catering for students in terms of dietary needs

-Allowing students to explore self, in terms of clothing and through my curriculum area with personalised projects.

Providing a safe physical environment for my students has included:

-Participating in the bike Safety Course with the Year 9s

-Providing RAMs forms for school trips

-Carrying out my designated duties and being vigilant at other times

-Eliciting health and safety regulations when using Technology spaces

-Providing appropriate health and safety equipment when necessary

Providing an emotionally safe environment for my students has included:

-Carrying out a pastoral role as a hub coach (PTC 2:1)

-Identifying when students need extra support and arranging a visit to the school counsellor

-Being warm and demanding in my teaching approach

Providing a socially safe environment for my students has included:

-Carrying out restorative practices to encourage positive relationships

-Participating in the Bodysafe workshop and being involved in our sexuality education programme

-Supervising social events such as our movie night and school dance

In addition to encouraging good Hauora, I try and find opportunities for personalised learning within my curriculum area, which allows each student to express and celebrate their identity.

In 'Diamonds', students were to design and create a copper jewellery piece based on the things that made them who they were.
