Points to take away:

Engagement is key: being responsive, finding out about the learner and what they are interested in and building the bridge between your LO with the student's experience, culture and prior knowledge.

Know your learner: make a point of getting to know them outside of the context of the school. Opportunites are duty, extra-curricular activities and EOTC.

Have high expectations: If you students know that you have high expectations, they will strive to meet those expectations, especially if they know you and like you.

"Because I have those expectations of myself, I have expectations of you to achieve."
