Situation

10% are strangers in terms of sexual violence

Stranger danger is not so relevant

1 in 5 girls and

1 and 10 boys have had unwanted experience before 16.

More than I thought

Over half hadn't told anyone.

A lot are family members: aunts and uncles.

How do you define consent?

What can we do on a micro level with individuals?

I think the best thing we can do is to know the learner, and build a trusting relationship.

We are not experts in this context, so I think it's important to know what systems are in place in the school to support the learner. Also, it's good to consult these professionals to support you with the learner too.

What can we do on a macro level to change a culture?

One thing to think about is gender stereotypes and how we have engrained ideas on our society. I think it's important to allow students to have opportunities to question these norms, and take action at making positive change.
