The other day a student asked me if they were ‘cool’. We sat down and talked about ‘What is Cool?’

’Cool’ is subjective which means, it means different things to different people.

I think that being cool is NOT making others feel UNCOOL, just like being a leader is not making others feel like followers. It’s not listening to POP music because everyone else does. It’s not wearing FASHIONABLE clothes because everyone is. It’s not doing stuff because everyone else is doing it. I believe that the foundation of ‘cool’ lies in being INTERESTED. If you make curiosity a habit and share it with others, you will become INTERESTING. Just like people that make boredom a habit become boring.

I think ‘cool’ is listening to pop and NON-pop music, because you like it. It’s wearing fashionable and NON-fashionable clothes, because you like it. It’s doing stuff with and WITHOUT your friends because you like it. It’s about exploring and being adventurous!

What do you think ‘cool’ is?
