A TED talk by Carol Dweck

Video Summary:

From a study where students were asked to do challenging work, Carol Dweck could categorise students into two groups:

-Students with a Growth Mindset

-Students with a Fixed Mindset

Response from Growth Mindset students:

Students understood that they couldn't do it YET

They saw challenge as a good thing

A lot of electrical activity in the brain

Response from Fixed Mindset:

Students focused on the NOW

Some considered cheating next time or looked for someone that did worse than them

Not much electrical activity from the brain

How can we bridge the build to 'yet'?

Praise wisely! Focus on effort, strategy and progress

Process praise can lead to students being more hardy and resilient
