I've made mugs before, so why am I so excited about these?
Well these actually look like they fit a good portion of tea and they are similar in size! It feels like a another break through.
As I said I've made mugs before but they so often end up getting used for espresso, which is something I don't even drink. One thing you must bear in mind is that when ceramics dry, all that moisture evaporates. This causes the item to shrink. I've also wondered whether a phenomenon occurs from the moment you take your mug off the wheel and place is somewhere else. It just seems to become smaller instantly; like an optical illusion.
Another issue I have is replicating to the same size. You make one great mug and the moment you try to produce another of the same size, your session descends into chaos.
I used to make the first and then make all the others much thicker and rely on the trimming process to match the sizing. This is not only time consuming but it feels like cheating.
But TA DA! One afternoon, four mugs, no trimming :-)
